DAYTON – The Covington Buccaneers lost to Cedarville 9-2 at Wright State University on Wednesday, which drops their record to 1-2.
It’s still early in the season and the Buccaneers are working hard to find their groove, which can take time. There are days where things just don’t go well and Wednesday happened to be one of those days as the Buccs committed five errors and struck out ten times at the plate.
Cedarville started things off with two runs in the first, but the Buccs tied the score with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third – runs scored by Carter Owens and Tanner Palsgrove.
Unfortunately things snowballed on the Buccs throughout the rest of the game and Cedarville was able to take advantage by scoring seven runs over the final four innings.
Covington was able to manage just four hits in the game – once each by Grant Blore, Tanner Palsgrove, Carson Taylor and Jacob Tipps.
Ashton Skaggs threw the first four innings and then Carson Taylor and Jacob Tipps split the final three innings. All three combined to strike out six batters and allowed seven walks.
Despite the loss there is still high expectations due to the talent and experience on the roster. One game doesn’t define a season and the Buccs look to rebound on Saturday at Arcanum.
