COVINGTON – Covington defeated Ansonia 4-3 in the final home game of the regular season where five Buccaneer seniors were honored by coaches, parents and fans.

Things started a little rough in the top of the first as Ansonia put two runs on the board. Fortunately, the Buccaneers responded with three runs. The big hit was a triple by Tanner Palsgrove that drove in Brairen Denson and Caiden Hollingsworth and then his brother, Tyler Palsgrove, put out a hit that drove in Tanner.

It appeared as though the game was headed into a high scoring afternoon, but both teams held up defensively throughout the final six innings with only two more runs scored. Ansonia tied the game at 3-3 with a run in the third and the Buccaneers scored the game winning run in the bottom of the fourth with a run scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Hunter McMillion.

Senior, Tanner Palsgrove picked up the win on the mound as he allowed just two hits and struck out four batters throughout four innings. Garrett Leistner, also a senior, collected the save.

Covington connected on five hits with Tanner Palsgrove leading the team with a 2-for-2 day and the Buccaneers only allowed two hits to Ansonia.

The win puts Covington at 10-9 with the next game being on Tuesday at Jackson Center.
